ISSUE
There are times when KTM Validation crashes when launching or when trying to update preferences, or possibly other circumstances. You may receive object reference errors or errors about an "error in XML document (1,1)". When this occurs, it only seems to happen with an isolated user. Further, permissions can be correct and anti-virus is not interfering.
SOLUTION
In a number of cases, the issue has been due to a corrupt Windows user profile. In these instances Deleting the Windows profile and having the system re-create it has resolved the issue in these instances.
Steps to delete User Profile in Windows 10
- Open the Run dialog and type "SystemPropertiesAdvanced" and hit "OK".
- Advanced System Properties will open. Click on the "Settings" button under the User Profiles section.
- In the User Profiles window, select the profile of the user account and click the "Delete" button. Confirm the request.
- In some cases, you may need to delete the profile manually. This can be done by performing the following:
- Open File Explorer and browse to the C:\Users directory. Look for the user name you want to delete (i.e., the folder) and delete it.
- Now, open the registry editor and browse to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
- On the left, go through the subkeys. For each subkey, look for the "ProfileImagePath" string value for the path of the user folder you deleted above. Once you find it, delete the subkey on the left.
NOTE: Deleting and re-creating the user profile will delete custom user shortcuts, email setup information. But it should not delete any applications installed.
