A recent Windows 10 Defender update is causing issues with Kofax Capture. But, this issue could also occur with other third party antivirus software.
One of the major antivirus/Defender issues being encountered by several customers is following error message being received after scanning a few pages: "Bad file name or number".
To resolve antivirus issues with Kofax, please add the following Kofax directories to Antivirus exclusion list.
(These directories assume default software locations were used during the Kofax software installation.)
Capture Server
- Entire contents of the CaptureSV share
- Program Files\Kofax\CaptureSS
Capture Client
- Temp directory (check the Environment Variables to ensure that the proper location is excluded)
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\CaptureSS
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Kofax
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax Image Products
- Also, include a specific exclusion to ignore any *.TIF files.
Note:If setting exclusions does not resolve the issue. check that windows defender real-time scanning is turned off on both client and server-side.
Update: (Do the following if Anti-Virus exclusions are set properly)
VRS 5.2.0.6 fix pack resolved an issue where windows defender was causing the bad filename error when the image location is on a network store.
1475830 - Windows 10 Defender Security prevents writing images to a network location when scanning more than one image in Kofax Capture or the Kofax VRS Test Application (VCDemo).
